Namesake
Evnia is a vital element of the scientific method and the process of addressing any problem on a pragmatic operational level, while focusing on strategic goals.
Evnia (ευ-νοια) is the Greek word for good, smart, articulate thinking.
“ευ” means “good”, while “νοια” means “mind, thinking”.
Evnia requires the skill to create coherent results through detailed knowledge of different disciplines and the process of logically linking facts, data, and information.
It is the basis of our action and the foundation, with which we provide value to our colleagues, clients, patients and, ultimately, the society.
This is the rationale behind our name, and this is what you can expect from us.
The Story Behind Our Owl Logo
In Greek mythology the owl is the sacred bird of Athena, goddess of wisdom and strategic thinking.
Throughout the years, owls have been a symbol of knowledge and wisdom and are associated with academic curiosity, learning and intelligent thinking.
Evnia’s owl, Eva, is closely related with our name Evnia, which means “smart articulate thinking and wisdom, hence our namesake is connected with the owl, as a symbol of wisdom and it represents our modus operandi and ethos. Below our owl, you will notice the words “To Strive. To Seek. To Find”. This phrase comes from the poem “Ulysses” by Lord Tennyson, a poem about Odysseus, the known hero from Homers Iliad and Odyssey. Odysseus was the favourite hero of Goddess Athena – she advised him and guide him with wisdom throughout his life, especially during the Trojan war as well as through his perilous journey back home to Ithaca. The poem focuses on the scene where Odysseus longs for yet another journey after his return to Ithaca and tries to convince his crew to join him:
“We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield”
The notion to always strive, seek and to find is inherent in the scientific method and the continuous journey of self-development and excellence.
Eva’s name is inspired by our namesake Evnia, and specifically by the first part “ευ” which means good. It represents the positive impact we aspire to bring to patients, doctors and society, through our work, an aspiration that is closely connected to our ethos and filotimo way of being.
